No Country

Layout, Typography

One of my favorite movies is No Country for Old Men. I love how this film is a modern western with really beautiful cinematography of the sweeping landscapes of West Texas. I created this film poster with that in mind. This film is adapted from the book by the same name and this poster came out feeling a lot like a book cover.

I used several images overlaid to create the background and grainy feel. There is a black and white image of the cowboy in the field. The background image of the mountains is in color but creates more depth with some very subtle hues. I’ve overlaid a $100 bill in the sky to represent the theme of greed and money.

The last image I’ve overlaid is extremely subtle and is only at 3% opacity. It’s a skull since the film depicts a lot of death and destruction. You can see the top of the skull curve around the first 0 in 100 just on the left. This theme is also shown in the deep red of the text and other formatting elements.

The tagline "You Can't Stop What's Coming" is shown on the right side of the poster in a lighter red as to create a better hierarchy and be more subtle from the other text.
