Phoenix Marathon Finisher Medal

I designed the finisher medals for the Phoenix Marathon. This was the second year this marathon was done. The first year, the concept was fire but this year I wanted to do something closer to the city architecture and a nod to the phoenix emblem. The designs on the side are taken from buildings in the Phoenix area.
Programs Used
The Half Marathon medal is the same as the Marathon with the exception of the silver plating and the distance indicated. I wanted this medal collection to feel elegant and like a coat of arms. Instead of depicting just a desert scene, this felt like something more thought out and conceptual.
I've found that as I've put a lot of effort into finisher medals, it makes a big difference with the participants. There are a lot of race medals that are not very high concept and they feel very generic. These medals are something that means a lot to people and is a token of all their hard work. It's very satisfying to see someone wearing a medal you designed.
